I’m confused about the statement concerning running 1 and 3 scrivener on the same computer. It states to choose the current Scrivener 3 location - well I don’t have another drive to put it on, I don’t want to delete scrivener 1 until I’m sure all my files are in scrivener 3 on this laptop. and I really only want scriver 3 on the desktop going forward.
So this is what I thought I do:
I have backed up files in scrivener 1 on my desktop. I downloaded scrivener 3 to my laptop and plan on taking the backup files from my desktop (scrivener 1 files) to update scrivener 3 on laptop.
When I confirm all files are there - I want to delete scrivener 1 on desktop and then move scrivener 3 to desktop by downloading it from literature and latte.
Can I assume that if I put the newly made backup copies from the laptop - that scrivener 3 will open them up and then I can back them up again on the desktop into another folder with no problem?
The main reason I’m doing this is that I don’t want to run scrivener 1 and scrivener 3 on my desktop, but just go forward with the new scrivener 3.

Yeah you definitely would not want to do that, and would maybe be warned if you tried (I can’t remember if I ever deliberately tried to do that). They are completely different programs, which is how you can have them both installed at once if you want. Just use the suggested default installation folder and you’ll be fine.
So given that, I don’t know about any of the rest of what you are saying. I can’t think of a reason to back up the installation folder and move it around, or copy it here or there. All you really need is the installer .exe kept safe, if you’re unsure of being able to download a copy from us when you need it. That will be a much safer way of restoring an install folder.
There are further tips on using both at once in the user manual PDF, under §3.2.1, Running Multiple Versions.
As to the rest, you seem to also be speaking of your work, which is of course entirely separate from installation. That will stick around no matter if you have Scrivener installed or not. If you’re looking to copy your work to another computer, and aren’t sure of best practices, I would recommend searching for threads as that has been discussed many times at this point. It’s not tricky at all if you know the basics about file management though. Scrivener projects are just folders with bunches of files in them.
