Friends, comrades, I decided to check out the new writing programs out there to get a feel of the new trends. After checking the most popular ones, I still think Scrivener is far better, much more robust, for the serious writer. Also, damn!, those subscription based programs are expensive as Hell! Scrivener FOR EVER!!!

Agree 100% on the subscription model. Like you I also looked over the market before deciding on the software I wanted to use. I found the subscription services to be extremely poor value with little in the feature set to justify the constant money grab.
Hands down, I think Scrivener has been one of the best value software purchases I have made.

I have a lifetime sub with Atticus as I was an early tester. I find it not ready for primetime, and their most recent update locked people out for several days and caused problems for some when they did get back in.
Apart from that, their subscription price is not wallet friendly (same for Ulysses)
