Scrivener

Hello,

I can’t get Scrivener to launch and need some advice on how best to install - still learning how to use Linux but I had previously managed to get Scrivener to run no problem on an older version of Ubuntu from this site on the same laptop I’m using now (old Sony Vaio - just swapped out the HDD for an SSD and installed the latest version of Ubuntu as the main OS).

I downloaded the scrivener.1.9.0.1-amd64.deb file and installed through GDebi with no obvious issues and although I can see the Scrivener icon nothing happens when I click on it.

When I ran it through Terminal this is what I got:

/usr/share/scrivener/bin/Scrivener: error while loading shared libraries: libpng12.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I’d thought that GDebi helped fix library issues? If there is a different version/way I should be trying to install I’m all ears.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, il,

I haven’t run the linux version for several years so I don’t have a “do this and you’re good” answer.

It’s a missing library/version issue. You can probably find a solution by looking through the topic: A Mostly Complete Guide to Installing Scrivenenr on Linux. Try the last post.

(Sorry about not posting a working link; haven’t figured out how to do that yet.)

By searching the forums here with the keyword “libpng12.so.0” I found the following forum posts that talk about this issue:

Hope these help.

Try this, if you did not try it yet.
