Scrolling Lost?

I just turned blue. After, things seemed ok. Two fingers scrolled my docs like magic, and the world was wonderful. Now, no. The only way I can move my docs is to hunt out the scroll bar, or move the cursor. Arg. Any idea why? THANK YOU

Sorry you have trouble. I suggest trying first doing a full shutdown and restart.

Thank you rms. It works in all other apps, just not Scrivener. Now I realize that it is just hella slow. Intel macs are fading in the rearview, and mine is all dented up.

Which version of Scrivener on? Have you updated to the latest version (3.5.1)? I did some work to try to make scrolling faster in that one.

Hey, thanks a lot. Love your app. Yes, 3.5.1, and whatever version was before. The diff is that the prior version didn’t budge, so yes, 3.5.1 is faster. It’s ok, I’m buying an M2. Cheers

Thanks for the kind words! And argh, that’s frustrating that 3.5.1 is still having these issues. Basically Apple changed something in the past couple of years so that trackpad scrolling now sends hundreds of messages that Scrivener is registered to listen to in order to update the UI. The strange thing is that as of 3.5.1, Scrivener now completely stops listening for the messages during scrolling, so I’m not sure why it’s still happening. Something else must be going on too.

On my Macbook Pro (M4) with Scrivener 3.5.2 - on most of my documents I can do a two finger swipe up or down on my trackpad and it appropriates flips through the document. But on a few of the documents in the same project, it only move a line or two at a time, so it takes a while to get to the bottom of the doc. I can use the scroll bar on the side, but I’m so used to using the two finger swipe. Do you know what causes this in some docs and not in others? I even tried copying out the text, putting it into a .txt file, and copying it back to a new Scrivener doc, but that didn’t help. Also tired zapping gremlins and used all of the other text clean up commands.

I thought I had solved it by converting the entire project to default formatting but the problem reappeared immediately.

What could be in the doc that keeps it from scrolling properly on some docs? Thoughts?

What’s different about the problem docs? Unusually long? Imported from another format?
