'search' function no longer working. Windows

I am working on a big file of over 300,000 words, lots of character and place bios and research pages. Suddenly, my ‘search’ function has stopped working, and I still have about 80/90,000 left to write.

I am not sure if I have accidentally clicked something that has changed things or if it is a bug. I use the ‘search’ regularly and am going to struggle without it.

I found another similar question and followed the advice there, which was to ‘save and rebuild search indexes’. I tried that, but it did nothing to help. I am still getting almost every page listed if I search for something, but not the actual thing I am looking for.

I am using project search.

Can anyone help, please? I don’t really know that much about the settings. I have been using Scrivener for years, but I just use the basic functions.

First thing make sure the focus is inside the editor/Scrivener. Also make sure the search/ find function is not behind the project.

It is likely you changed a setting so that the project search tool is now working very differently from what you were used to. For example, if you click on the magnifying glass icon to the left of the search field and select “Invert Results”, you can imagine how wildly that would change things.

Try the option to reset back to defaults, at the very bottom of that menu.

Hi, thanks for your advice. I don’t understand what you meant, but I’m grateful you took the time to comment. Thankfully, I now have it sorted.:slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks so much for your comment. You’ve saved my sanity. I had no idea you could actually click on the magnifying glass or that all those options existed. I had seen other comments elsewhere regarding numerous options I couldn’t understand – now I know why.

I did indeed have ‘invert results’ checked. I can’t think how I managed that when I didn’t even know the list was there.
