Section layout not generating page breaks

I have set up a custom layout that looks like this:

The “Chapter Heading” section indicates that a page break should be generated. However, when compiled the chapters simply run one after the other with no page break. Is this a bug?

Separator settings are a bit fiddly. Can we see those?

Actually, you’re using the Default Compile Format. All Section Types are assigned to As-is Editor Formatting. Did you update the Assignments to a different Section Layout?

If you mean, did I change the assignments from their default, no, I don’t think I have. Although by this point I’ve fiddled with all of this so much that it’s possible. Actually, upon checking, for the Chapter Title I’m using a section type that features the section title and text. The base default features just the section title.

Here is the separator setup for the Chapter Heading section:

And here is the setup for the Scene section:

I’ve played around with these settings in my attempts to achieve what I’m looking for so these may not be the original settings (but the original settings definitely didn’t work either).

Hi

Either your screenshots are wrong or you misunderstood the purpose of the middle-bottom list.
Right now, you are tweaking the folders (both screenshots are the same), and nothing says that your section-layouts uses the “Folders/Text Files” setup.

Also both screen shots are the same and are the default setting for folders, not text.
You can apply unique separators per section layout.

(Nevermind the name “For PDF” – where the blue arrow is – it doesn’t mean anything. It is just the name of the section-layout in my testing compile format.)

Oh, I see. I thought that when I clicked to edit a section on the Compile Overview screen that the following screen (Compile Format Designer), where I can access separators, would already point to the section I initially clicked on. But I see have to choose it again under “section layouts” in the bottom middle pane of Compile Format Designer.

I’ve now done that and chosen “page break” for the subsequent option that comes up for “Chapter Heading.” It now does what I want it to do. Thanks!
