I’ve tried to search for this topic and haven’t found anything to solve my problem, so here goes:
I am experiencing a terrible lag as I type in Scrivener–enough that I can’t use the program! This just randomly started happening a few weeks ago, no rhyme or reason that I can find.
My version of Scrivener is: Version: 1.7.3.0 - 20 Aug 2014
I’ve changed to auto-save to a few minutes instead of a few seconds.
My computer doesn’t have any other issues, all updated and running smoothly…I’m at a loss and I need my Scrivener!
Did you install or update any other software (including Windows) around the same time? Something like an antivirus or antikeylogger could be buffering your keyboard input and causing lag.
Does the lag happen in a new blank project, or is it only occurring in a certain project or specific document within a project? One user has reported lag working within tables–are you using tables or a lot of images in the problem document?
My lag problem is solved–WHOOT! I’ll share what happened, in case it helps anyone in the future.
I had nothing else running–tried turning off my virus protection, etc…no tables…had changed auto save to a longer time…still lag…
HowEVER, after emailing with tech support, I realized I had far too big of a document in one text file, as Scrivener is designed to be split into smaller documents and compiled at the project’s finish. The lag was only happening in this one particular project.
As a new Scrivener user, I had pasted a big project from Word and worked on an entire manuscript in one document instead of splitting up chapters/scenes/etc. Now that I have found a better workflow with Scrivener, I’m eager to start my next project
Oh good, glad to hear it’s all sorted out! I’m not sure why single large documents cause such a problem sometimes, but there are some low-level changes going into the next major version of Scrivener that I hope will reduce the cases of this. Scrivener is definitely designed around working in small sections, though, so you’ll get a lot of other benefits out of breaking up your manuscript. I personally am a fan of coloured labels. They make my outline look so pretty, it practically begs me to write it…
