Several functions not working

I should have mentioned that I write in french (I switched back to the english interface, though, as it is easier to find the commands when following the user guide…) I found a command to download the french dictionary; the program seemed to have ‘worked’ a bit, but the spelling didn’t work any better after that. Has it really downloaded something? Or is it going to ‘say’ something if it didn’t find any dictionary?

According to this thread there seems to be a dictionary problem when one uses a language other than english.
