Simple Drag and Drop doesn't work

I have a basic Scrivener Project (blank template) in Mac Air latest version with Sequoia. All I want to do is export / save as / drag and drop some Folders and Docs into a TextEdit doc so I can save and attach to an email. Somehow, I’m not able to do that. I’ve tried Export, etc. I can’t get the subordinate text in my docs to come across to TextEdit. Any tips?

Do you want individual documents, or do you want to merge them into one?

If the former, what do you need TextEdit for? Export the documents to a folder, and then attach them to the email directly.

If the latter, that’s what the Compile command is for.

If you just want to copy some text out to an email, try selecting it, right-clicking on the selection, and using the Services submenu, and select “New Email with Selection”, bypassing the whole TextEdit then Mail thing. If you don’t see that, either you don’t use Mail, or maybe the service is disabled (though they should be on by default). You’ll find Services in the System Settings: Keyboard: Keyboard Shortcuts: Services, section, under Messaging.

Otherwise, the advice above is best. File ▸ Export ▸ Files... is your general purpose: select this thing from the binder and make a file from it, tool. If you use any kind of formatting other than basic text, I wouldn’t advise using TextEdit to modify it, as that can lose images, footnotes, comments and other things you might have intended to include. It’s a pretty basic editor. If you need a free alternative that does better with RTF files, or DOCX files, try either Pages (for DOCX only) or LibreOffice.
