First of all, thanks to the Scrivener developers and supporters for a fabulous tool which I am still learning how to take full advantage of. However, I have encountered a problem.
When I drag and drop text, unlike Microsoft Word, Scrivener does not move the leading or and trailing spaces. This means that the first word in the moved text becomes joined to the preceding word in the target area – and there is a double space in the string of text left behind. Consequently I always have to correct these two errors – to add a space to separate the words in the target area and to remove an unwanted space in the ‘from’ area. I wish that Scrivener would perform an intelligent move and preserve the spacing in the same way that Microsoft Word does.
I’m posting this as a wish list item, but if this facility exists within Scrivener, please let me know since I could not find it.
Hi, welcome to the community.
The automatic smart space insertion of MS Word is a nice user aid. It is so inconspicuous that you don’t even realise it is always present. You are correct, as far as I can tell, not an available feature in Scrivener at this time.
Note, this ability in MS Word is, however, turned on by default. That’s why you see such behaviour. It can be switched off and the drag/drop or cut/paste will behave in MS Word the same as Scrivener and most other editors.
One for the wishlist.
In Word, see File->Options->Advanced->Use smart cut and paste->Settings->Adjust sentence and word spacing automatically
