Spell check

Spell check just quit working. I have checked all the settings and its turned on, I closed and reopened the program and restarted the machine. How can I fix this?

I, too, am having this problem. I have Spell Check turned on in the settings, but spell check is not occurring. I can manually tell Scrivener to spell check the document by going to Edit>Spelling & Grammar>Check document now, but it only finds the next misspelled word. I have to repeat this process over and over again to get through to the end of the document.

I can similarly check spelling manually by going to Edit>Spelling & Grammar>Show Spelling and Grammar, and that will bring up the Find/Replace dialogue box, which will also enable me to go through the document one error at a time.

Any thoughts as to why the automatic spelling detection might have been turned off and isn’t working in Scrivener?

I am also having problems with SpellCheck.

I am beyond frustrated at this software. It seems since I downloaded it and started using it, I have had nothing but one problem after another.

I am about ready to give up and move back to Word, but hope someone will answer this plea for help.

The SpellCheck doesn’t work. I have it turned on in Options, but it doesn’t recognize misspelled words.

I don’t think I should have to move my project from Scrivener to Word just to check spelling. Nor do I think I need to know how to spell “maniacal” properly - especially since I’ve struggled with that word my entire life.

Please help me. I’m nearing my wits’ end. I am on my Windows desktop version.

For each project, is Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Check Spelling While Typing enabled?

I’m having this version as well in Windows 1.9. I’ve checked the setting to ensure it’s turned on, but not been able to figure out a solution.

Please, you are posting in the Mac technical support forum. If you need help with Windows 1.9x spelling, please post in the Windows Scrivener technical support forum.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually have posted in the Windows support forum as well, and on several posts and threads with others experiencing similar issues. This glitch appears to appears to be persistent across OS’s, hence my reasoning to post here in a thread with a similar issue. To me, it seemed logical that if the problem occurs across both Windows and Mac versions of the program, it might be a glitch with a universal source/solution.

If this isn’t the case, then I apologize for wasting people’s time. At this point, I’m just trying to connect with people who have experienced similar issues in an attempt to puzzle out what’s happening and root it back to a solution. The OS’s might be different, but if it’s a breakdown in some similar setting, it may be similar enough I can work my way backwards to find a Windows-based solution, or at least give me a starting point.

If I recall correctly, Mac Scrivener uses the spell check provided by MacOS. Further, I believe there is no common code shared between Mac and Windows Scrivener. They are completely separate. Any spell checker problems on Mac are separate from problems experienced on Windows.
