Split Document as Batch

I want to split a document containing multiple paragraphs into separate documents at each paragraph mark, all at once. k

The File ▸ Import ▸ Import and Split... command lets you choose any arbitrary string of characters to split by, including carriage returns if that is what you want.

Hi Amber! Can I perform this operation on a doc that already exists within the project that I am working on in Scrivener? Thx, k

Ah, I see what you’re trying to do. You would have to use the File ▸ Export ▸ Files... command first, with it selected, and then import it using the above method. Whether that is worth it would depend on how much of Scrivener’s feature set you use in the text editor. Something with a lot of internal links / styles / annotations and so forth would probably be easier to just alternate between Ctrl+↓ and Ctrl+K.

(Hint: they still have not fixed the problem of moving the cursor over into the binder when splitting, even going to the length of opening the binder if it is closed. It should stay in the editor. At any rate, it looks like you can get around this problem by splitting once, and then selecting the two, enabling Scrivenings mode, and then continuing to split from there.

Or I could simply cut and paste the doc to the text editor, save it, and import it. Thanks! k

Whichever is easiest for you, by all means!

“. . . they still have not fixed the problem of moving the cursor over into the binder when splitting . . . .” Hmmm. I just noticed that, if I have two adjacent docs selected (where you see the dashed line between them), the cursor remains in the doc in which I am making one-by-one splits. k
