Not exactly bedside reading, but this is the only time I can read something like this.
Porter, Stanley E. The Letter to the Romans: A Linguistic and Literary Commentary. Sheffield Phoenix Press, 2015. Unique commentary in that he approaches the text from a literary and linguistic perspective. But this commentary does not interact with other commentaries who respond to other commentaries.
Having read theological commentaries of the other variety, this is a refreshing change. He deals with the text. Nothing more, nothing less. So rather than a 1,000 page commentary on commentaries, it is 310 page commentary on the Greek text, plus an extended bibliography. I hope more volumes will be written this way.
