I’m new to Scrivner. The past week I’ve copied and pasted documents from Word into chapters trying to get a structure. Yesterday my word count jumped from 80,000 words to 349,000 words. Right now the program is compiling when I asked to see the statistics. Is this a bug? Thanks for the help.
The “accurate” statistics count does run the Compile command, because you can’t get an accurate count of “what will be in the output file” any other way.
That big a jump suggests that you inadvertently copied something in multiple times. You might find that Importing from Word is easier to manage than copying and pasting.
If you haven’t already, I’d recommend taking a look at our Interactive Tutorial, available from the Help menu. It’s a good overview of Scrivener’s fundamental operations.
Thank you… found the file… it added 200,000 + words. Sent it to the trash and now the word count is correct. Appreciate the feedback and will check out the tutorials again.
