Still in trial mode, have lost access ... help!

I’m sorry, this is probably going to be annoyingly vague.

Laptop is Windows 10 Home version. I downloaded scrivener in August 2017 and wrote quite a bit. Came back to it today (yes, long hiatus!) and it asked me to update the version. I think from 1.6 to 1.9?

I did this … and now I can’t open Scrivener. For one glorious moment, before the update, I had a tantalising glimpse of the last thing I wrote, but now - nada.

I tried going back to the previous version but it said there was no previous version. I didn’t get an option to run it in Windows 10 mode, only 8, Vista, ME and a couple of others.

Naturally, I don’t have a back up or a print out … sigh …

Can anyone recommend what I should do? I’m happy to pay for a full version, I’m just paranoid about losing access to my previous material.

Many thanks!

Not sure if this will help, but look on your drive for folders that end with “.scriv”. Locate the one that has your project name.
Go inside and find folders Files → Docs, inside should be .rtf files. You can copy them to a separate folder (not move, copy) and check with Word or Wordpad whether they have your content inside. If they do, you didn’t lose the text. Even if it won’t work with Scrivener, you can still work on it in any other editor.

You might also have actual scrivener-made backups in: c:\Users[your username]\AppData\Local\Scrivener\Scrivener\Backups\ - check for ZIP files there.

Oh thank you, I’ll give that a go!

Thank you so much - I have recovered most of the work, just not the last bit. I’m hoping that once I purchase the product it will pull through, but at least I now have a usable back up!
