I have a MS of just over 100,000 words. the free LLMs that I have looked at will only edit in small chunks, so I’d pay for one month’s subscription. I can’t emphasize enough that I seek a LLM to only proofread the novel for typos and repeition.
speficially, I would like it to point out acidentall repeated sentences. the reason I posted this question: on reviewing the MS I found that I had, by mistake, repeated the same sentence twice in one paragraph, which I really wanted not to do elsewhere (or at all).
This will look at your text and identify spelling errors and grammar. I pointed it at my upcoming novel in a word document format (approx 100,00 words). It seems to handle it reasonably OK.
It won’t change any of your text unless you tell it too. It also has other reports, such as repeated words of phrases.
Like I say I used it over the last year or so on my book to tidy it up. Though I’ve still got a real copyeditor hired to do there thing.
ProWritingAid does a lot more than just spelling and grammar, though I guess that’s were it all started. It can detect overused sentences or phrases, as per the attached image. It also has reports for other aspects of writing, an overview can be found her : https://prowritingaid.com/features/writing-reports/.
Might be worth just having a look at the website to see if it suits your needs.
Right. If you look at that little odd (and apparently not so professional) online app (there is a standalone app too) that I linked to, that’s visually how it seems. – Word duplicates.
But it is actually much better than what you originally asked for.
See the word list on the right? You can toggle words on and off.
You can also adjust the number of found duplicates required for a word to appear in that list.
SO:
If your sentence is duplicated and you have the setting to 2x, its words WILL be in the list.
You can then focus on the important words of that target sentence, and toggle only these ones on.
This done: if you see a clump of highlighted words somewhere, it is likely a duplicate of your sentence. Even if it is a variation – same words but in a different formulation/order. ← !!
This said, there is nothing stopping you from using project search, within Scrivener, based on the same principle. (Enter the main words in the search field and then look for a clump of highlighted words.)
My editing process, for what it is worth, is to print the manuscript and then rewrite it page by page. It will take a while for a 100,000-word manuscript, but you will pick up issues like repeated sentences. Plus, there is nothing like holding your manuscript in your hands. Make me a happy bunny.
