Hello! I’ve already reviewed this post and tried to troubleshoot based on what it covers a few days ago. I followed the offical synch guide when I added Scrivener to the iPad.
My iPad & Mac were synching back and forth via dropbox fine originally. Now they are not.
For a file on my iPad: when I hit the synch button on iPad, I don’t get error messages. The file shows up in dropbox as a folder with a .scriv file in it, but will not synch to my desktop folder on my Mac.
A similiar file on my mac will show as a .scriv locally, but only back up to dropbox as a zip. The iPad doesn’t recognize this. Also no error messages.
I have confirmed that the backup location on dropbox is the same for both the iPad and the Mac.
I’m now trying to change the synch folder for my Mac to a different location from the backup; I don’t think I know what I’m supposed to do. As I understand it, I pick one dropbox folder for all of my iOS sync files together, and on the Mac, I have to create individual synch folders for each project?
Or is what I’m supposed to be doing on the Mac just working off of dropbox files instead of my local machine? Or manually dragging and dropping the files? (That doesn’t seem right, as that’s not what I was doing when it was working before.)
Scrivener backup locations must be different from where the projects are kept.
My setup which you may consider to emulate:
~/Dropbox/Apps/Scrivener where I keep all Scrivener projects as macOS packages. Dropbox (not Scrivener) manages the sync between that local folder and Dropbox’s servers.
~/Backups/Scrivener where I keep all the Scrivener automated backups. Other apps with automated backups are directed to their own folder under ~/Backups This is not a Dropbox sync folder as I do not consider sync folders proper backups. This and all other contents of the local disk, including the Scrivener project packages in the Dropbox folder, are backed up to TimeMachine (local USB and Synology NAS) and Arq remote backup.
I do not use the default Scrivener backup location in a subfolder of ~/Library/Application Support/Scrivener/Backups as I consider that buried too deep for me to remember and keep track of. Need brain cells for writing not IT.
Thanks so much for the help! I ended up uninstalling & reinstalling dropbox as well as transferring my work location to a desktop folder in dropbox. I thiiiiink I’m good now.
