System voice (Mac)

Hi team,

Voice output is something I am using on a regular base to let the system reading loud my manuscripts for me, to check how it sounds.
Finally in Catalina it’s possible to choose “Siri” as the system voice which sounds much better than our aged “Anna”.
Switching to Siri, the system shortcut works fine and Siri is reading my text in Scrivener.
However, choosing the Scrivener Menu Icon (The microphone Icon) instead, I hear Anna.

Greetings,
Thomas

Looks like a bug in the operating system to me. I get the same result when using Edit ▸ Speech ▸ Start Speaking command in any program at all.

Yes, but strange is: If I use the hotkeys to start speech, Siri comes up correctly and is reading the editors text or the marked section.

Greetings,
Thomas

Yeah, it’s almost like Apple only did testing on the global shortcut and forgot about the menu commands that get inserted into every program! And of course our toolbar button is just going through that same architecture the menu commands would. It definitely is an oversight with the Siri voices themselves. I tried other voice settings, like Cello (which is the best voice for reading the tutorial aloud), and that works fine.
