Tables: adding and removing individual borders?

Hi guys.

I’m working on my thesis, and I wanted to use a table to make some information easier to swallow. Thing is, one column is waaaaay longer than the other - so I figured I’d just add another column to make it work. A crude illustration:

/ 1 / 2 2 /
/ 1 / 2 2 /

Problem is, I can’t figure out how to change the individual borders to make it work. When I highlight the relevant area and tell it to ‘remove vertical borders’, it just removes every vertical border in the table. And when I right click and look under ‘borders’ there is only the option to remove them - not add them.

Is there any way to work around this? If need be, I could just choose the relevant borders and change their colour to white, but even that seems to just apply to all of the borders. What do I do?

You make the tables in Word. You will compile the manuscript before publishing, right? So make the final adjustments outside Scrivener.
