Taskbar Playing Funny Buggers

Is there a reason why the Scrivener icon will no longer pitch up on my Windows 11 Taskbar?
It’s there among the Taskbar Shortcuts but doesn’t show up on the bar itself.

%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

The option to Pin to Taskbar is also not there, and in case it shouldn’t be, well Unpin from Taskbar is it’s alternative. Did the whole restart thing and deleting the shortcut and creating a new one.

Sorry, can’t reproduce…

You need the app to run, then right click ⮚ Pin

Yeah, probably not. All my Taskbar shortcuts ghosted. I repinned them and got Excel (2), Scrivener (2), etc.
The originals were at: %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar, so I deleted the lot, and all the rest came back as normal when I pinned a new batch, except for Scrivener which came back as an icon of a sheet. Once I deleted it, it went bye-byes for good.

Well, there the icon is again as a sheet when I open Scrivener from the Start menu.

I think you need to go to Windows settings and trash the thumbnails.
I am not sure. I had apps do that in the past and I think that this is what fixed it.

(I’m running Windows 10)

It’s not the thumbnail. I like them (jump lists), which is Windows version of tabs.
I’m querying the icon itself that looks like a page with a fold at the top right corner.
I don’t believe it’s a Scrivener problem per se but wrote in on the off chance that someone had resolved the same Windows issue.
Maybe the end of the week Windows update will sort it out.

In my case, I create the taskbar icon like this:

  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Scrivener3
  2. Right-click on Scrivener.exe
  3. Click “Show more options”
  4. Click Send to… Desktop (create shortcut). That puts the clickable icon onto the desktop.
  5. I then drag it to the taskbar.

I’ve damaged something somewhere; the Taskbar doesn’t want to accept the drag from the Desktop:

Hmm, reinstalling the current version of Windows resolved the matter.

I’m glad you got it resolved.
