When I add a new document, for some reason it opens in Screen play mode and I have to adjust it to general text. Have been through prefs and don’t see where this is set as a default. If I want to default to general text, what do I need to do?

Screenplay mode is set via Text > Mode (menu). Once you set a document to screenplay mode, it will stay in that mode until you change it back. General text is the default unless you manually set it to Screenplay mode, though.
