the best way to use key words

the book i’m writing is non-fiction, which is the reason for the emphasis on research. the things sebbi’s saying about consistency are good ideas. but the complication with what i’m doing for the book is that the photos in aperture (great software, btw) don’t have the key words inside them. i began by just adding keywords to files in my scrivener research every which way. i think i was more indexing than anything else. now, when i do i a search, i get a huge number of files.

i’ve considered doing keywords in latin to eliminate the problem of the same keyword showing up in the document itself. i dunno.

i’m thinking about using events which form the structure of the book for keywords. again, i dunno.

i’m confounded.

I thought keywords would work quite precisely like searching Google Books ie enter a name, and up comes a document page, and a fragment of text, but it only seems to lead to Finder and thence to a document. In common with Rebecca and others I feel there must be a step that I’m missing. Can anyone enlighten me?
thanks
