The Lippincott Dinner [aka - Villa Diodati 2]

Just under 23 hours left to submit (part 4 of 4)

Geez, pressure!! I tried removing the vowels from my 5,000, but that didn’t really work, so I am trying other compression techniques.

Say, what is the length limit expressed in bits? I am pretty sure I only need 7 bits for most of the way. That could bring me in under the line all by itself.

Wouldn’t want anyone to forget to submit!

In other news, I am up to 956 words into the first draft. Lots to go!

I have some surplus words I can sell you. Different place, different time. You could work it in as a flashback.

Or a rum based “what really happened” scene. I may not have done that.

This is pigfender we’re talking about. We should offer him a bundle, because he will need the words and the rum for that.

Don’t worry about the initial outlay, piggy, we can get it for you wholesale.

Get it? Can’t I just pull from one of my import cases?

Dude, we’re trying to run a racket here.

(So, you are also the wholesaler. Wink wink, nudge nudge.)

Mission: to find 2000 expendable words. That’s a lot of fall guys. After hacking out a 1000, I made the disturbing discovery that my typescript had grown – by 1000 words! Not supernaturally or anything, it is just that I made a foolish sleep-deprived error in my initial count. Turns out my story had come in an 6k unbeknownst to me. Yeesh. So, yeah. I am lookin’ for 3000 fall guys – or another 2000, depending on how you like to think about.

“That’s right, sweetheart, you’re taking the fall!”

I feel ya. I buried 2116 of my little gems in the tomb of brevity. I started by deleting my clever opening scene that was designed to give punch to the surprise ending. All in all, I think the story is better in its current reduced form.

Just me talking to the walls here, but for the record, am switching to Plan B.

Phew, finished and submitted! Thank you, Rog, for doing this, and I can’t wait to read what everyone came up with!

With dread, I have realized that I have somehow missed the original Welcome pack and didn’t know we even started.

Judging by the deadline, I can still fit in (probably), so I will try to wrap my flu-ridden brain around it.

And I’m not ready - need to withdraw. Best of luck to everyone else!

I had an idea this morning. So

put my butt in chair
opened scrivener and wrote
still under 3k

Anyone else want to try “the * is an idiot challenge”

  • Write a second story
  • make both fit in the 3k work limit
  • start the second one with less than 12hr left in SSiaM (Short Story in a Month)

Come on Grrrrrrr you know you want to…

Check your spam to make sure you received it ok. :joy:

That is my whole Plan B! SSHAM (Short Story in a Hot Minute). Only in my version the 6k first story goes in the drawer.

In your honor, my SSHAM-B story has liquour. Though I had to change the rum to saki to make any likeness to persons real or imagined purely coincidental.

This is true. I can confirm that * has indeed submitted two stories (within the total 3,000 limit).

(our first ever double-sub)

Now you mention it, I never did receive an email from myself saying I’d gotten it and could open the file!
