The STOP SHOUTING, NUMBNUT caret (or: features to look forward to in macOS 14)

That’s a good one too, especially on those smaller Mac keyboards that don’t have a dedicated Del key. You can still do it, but it requires Fn+delete and such capability is printed nowhere, so you have to know about it (lots of people think there is no PgUp/Down on Mac laptops for the same reason).

I actually liked that little paper cat that Word had as an alternative. I didn’t actually use it, but I appreciated the aesthetic.

Looks like they even went one step further:

Updated text cursor. The text cursor briefly displays an indicator that shows the current input language when you switch keyboard languages. The indicator can also signal helpful input details like when Caps Lock is on.

I know I’m the only person here who’s frequently affected by both “problems” (caps lock, both on or off when the opposite is wanted, and wrong input language), so I’m as happy as you don’t give a shit.

Technically that’s three. So anybody who actually gave somewhat of a …, now does 33% less.
( - infinity for the others, I suppose?)
But I’m happy for you.

Caps Lock status and Input Language change indicator — I count two. And without knowing the total number of potential annoyances it’s impossible to determine the ∆% of relief. E.g. in my case it would be 100%.

But what if you accidentally switch language while a cookie chunk lands hard on the CAPS key ? Ain’t a combo of both a third cause of distress ?

If a clown slips on a banana peel, how many more of them were there in the car ?

I have a strict no cookies, no bananas and no clowns near Apple products policy. Oh, wait… Strike off the clown rule.

Ah, but clown entails banana peel. And then too rock beats banana peel and cookie beats rock.

It’s a slippery slope, my friend, once you let the clowns out.
