The wheel of death appearing

From being beautifully stable, Scrivener seems to be hanging a lot since I upgraded to 2.2, the Mac wheel appears after very minor text edits in compose view, holds for 20-30 seconds, then will keep happening for a number of times, before settling down for a bit, then begins again.

I’m running it on 10.6.8 - anyone any ideas what might be happening?

Thanks

Ben

How big is your project? Have you imported any PDFs which may be slightly dodgy into the Research folder?

Mark

Try adjusting the autosave interval. I had a similar experience, made even more confusing because I’d just upgraded to a much faster computer. Adjusting the autosave from 2 seconds to 10 cleared it right up.

Katherine

Hi Mark/Katherine,

No PDF’s - the file has essentially not changed in terms of research documents in months, way before this new upgrade. No PDFs just text from webpages generally, or self typed notes.

The main doc is about 47k, up from around 40k before the problems started - it’s a children’s book so not large.

I’ve tried changing the autosave as you suggested Katherine, but it’s still doing the same thing. I’m going to try clearing out most of the supporting docs and see if that frees up anything. It takes forever to close down and save with this new version, haven’t timed it, but last time, felt like about 5 minutes (I went out of the room and it still wasn’t saved out when I came back).

It’s getting frustrating because it’s becoming almost impossible to work when it is happening.

My fingers are crossed that clearing the trash out may have done it.

It’s still happening, alas.

I am seeing the wheel fairly often too, though not unusable. Not very large document.

Needless to say, this shouldn’t be happening. The only time saving would normally take a while is for a very large document (not in words, but in file size), or for text documents that contain lots of images. If the project is not too large, please send it to support AT literatureandlatte DOT com and we’ll be happy to take a look. Please note that it might take us a couple of days to get to it seeing as we are working through the Christmas backlog after the break at the moment, but we will certainly take a look.

Thanks and all the best,
Keith
