How do I get the tool bar with the text options to show? Like font, size, alignment.
I go to tools, customize toolbars, it shows two: Format toolbar and main toolbar.
I can select the Format toolbar but not the main toolbar.

You can toggle the format bar’s visibility via Format > Format Bar. If you’re trying to customise it, then you’d go to Tools > Customize Toolbars and select “Format Bar” in the upper right to display the possible buttons and arrange it as you like.
Thanks Jennifer, I have tried that a few times, it just doesn’t happen for me.
If I open a brand new project, the format toolbar is there and I can’t even make it disappear. But in my current project: no format toolbar.

That’s very odd. Is the “Format Bar” option in the Format menu greyed out? If you select it in either the new or the current project, does it toggle the checkmark in the menu (while not changing the main project interface), or does that not happen either?
Click on the text area first. When that isn’t done, the sub menu items are greyed out. Try that.
