In my Tools tab/Writing Tools, I can only access the Name Generator function - all other functions are inactive. How can they be activated? I’m using the latest version of the software…

Could it be that you haven’t selected any text in your document first?
Try typing some stuff, selecting a word and then going to the Writing Tools. 
The Tools won’t work if you haven’t selected any text to look up.
