I paid for two versions of Scrivener and you still can’t sync between them.
Come on. It’s 2024.

Since you haven’t bothered to provide any details about your devices, your syncing service(s), your symptoms, or how you’ve tried to fix things, I can’t be bothered guessing.
Here’s L&L’s Cloud-Sync Knowledge Base article.
HTH,
Jim
I’ve (many of us have) been syncing seamlessly between Mac and iOS since 2016, and Win since 2021 with ZERO problems. Didn’t have to wait for 2024
SO, as Jim said, more info needed.
In addition to his points, what versions/platforms assuming the link he provided doesn’t fix your issue.
Thats’s right. You can’t sync between version 1 and 3, you convert, and Bob’s your uncle.
The issue I’m having is that Scrivener docs that I created on my iPhone won’t open on my desktop.
I get an error message"The document “XXX.scriv” could not be opened."
It asks me to show package contents and search for a file entltled “binder.scrivproj”.
Can’t find that, though I do find “binder.mob”.
Now, if I create a project on my Mac, the I have no trouble opening it on my iPhone.
Files are missing as probably Dropbox deleted them. Most likely incomplete sync, possibly caused by you have a Dropbox setting to keep files “online” whereas Scrivener needs them “offline”.

More information about this error message can be found here:

It wasn’t really Sync issue.
It was that if I create a new file on my iPhone, I can’t open it on my Mac.
However, if I create on my Mac, then I can open it on my iPhone.
So I basically exported as PDFs all my files, and created new files on my Mac.
It took some time, but now I can see these files on both my iPhone and my Mac.
I have all created a few “Blank” files on my Mac, just in case I would want to start a new file on my iPhone.
Did you read and act on the link that I posted?
If not, the problem is very likely to come back.
I did. Thank you for your help!
Hi,
I just set up Dropbox synching between Windows and iOS. It works fine, but at some point in the process I allowed the iOS version to synch automatically whenever I switch projects.
Even after just one hour, I’m already annoyed by the constant auto-synch since I typically switch between two projects very often. I’d love to return to manual synching only but can’t find where to disable the automatism.
Could someone please point me in the right direction? I’ve already searched the forums but came up empty.
Hope this helps.
That’s perfect, thanks so much!
Hi everyone,
My Scrivener iOS has suddenly stopped syncing. I just get the sync window and the spinney wheel goes forever. I have looked through what tips I could find and tried clearing the dropbox cache. It reset the sync button to gray and all the projects looked like they were synced. But when I tried to syncing again I had the same problem.
Much thanks for any help and sorry if I am missing something obvious to try.
Best,
Priscilla

And, can you access Dropbox folders via the Files app on iOS ok?
Hi! Thanks, for sharing some ideas. I can access dropbox folders fine through the files app. And the troubleshooting link you shared is where I got the idea to clear the cache, but that’s the only thing that seemed relevant. I’ve been using Scrivener synced with Dropbox for years, so it’s not a matter of getting it properly set up. It just synced fine a couple days ago.
I installed NordVPN a few weeks ago and it’s been fine with that too. I’ve tried restarting the whole iPad. I’ve tried closing everything. Same problem.
Mystery. Something changed, but what?
I don’t think you mentioned re-starting from shutdown the iOS device?
Perhaps try to “re-link” Dropbox, or “un-link Dropbox” then link again?
Are you syncing multiple devices or just the iPad?
I had not been able to find a way to unlink Dropbox but looked it up at your prompting with high hopes. Alas, it did not work. I have also tried shut down of the device.
I’m thinking it’s probably the VPN. (VPN Creating iOS Sync Issues? - #9 by AmberV) But I can’t get it to just turn off temporarily. ARGH. I may have to take that off entirely to see if that’s the problem.
UPDATE: I got the VPN to disconnect and it still doesn’t work.
Yes, just iPad and desktop.
