Turn off Auto Suggest [macOS 14+ inline predictive suggestions]

I just updated to 3.3.3 and sonoma on mac and the curser is trying to complete my sentences / words. Is there a way to turn this off? It is terribly distracting. I tried searching the forums but didn’t find anything about this.

Hi.

If it is not due to your OS, there is an auto-completion checkbox (if like in the Windows version) in options / corrections / corrections.
But that relies on words you would have set.
So I suspect your OS.

Is it good? Some people would pay for this. :see_no_evil:

But seriously, that’s what you’re looking for: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255165390?answerId=255165390021#255165390021

THANK YOU!!! It’s fine–but it’s distracting me from find the word I actually want to use.

Hi, I just upgraded to MacOS 14.1, and I noticed a change in the way Scrivener 3.3.6 works with it. When I type I get suggestions for word completions. (E.g. I would have typed “comp” and it would have suggested a word that began with “comp” that may be the word I was going to type. I find it distracting when I’m writing. How do I turn that off? I went to Settings>Corrections and turned off auto completion, but it still is suggesting how I might finish a word I’m typing.

Thank you.

Hi MDVD, and welcome to the forum.

The predictive text tool you’ve encountered is actually a macOS tool, not one from Scrivener.

On the macOS, you can go to System Settings > Keyboard > Text Input > Input Sources and click the “Edit” button. Here, you’ll want to toggle the “Show inline predictive text” tool so that it’s not highlighted.

That will turn off predictive text throughout the macOS in all apps.

If you want to use that setting in most other apps but not in Scrivener, you can go to Scrivener > Settings > Corrections and tick the box under “Auto-Completion” next to “Only suggest completions from custom auto-complete lists.”

That seems to have fixed it. Thank you so much!

Newbie here. Scrivener is constantly feeding me text as I type - not shortcuts or text replacements I added to my Mac Keyboard, but auto-complete suggestions for every word. How do I make it stop?

Settings----->Corrections

The tick marks are what I have, your preferences may differ.

Thank you very much. Doesn’t seem to have disappeared yet, but I’ll shut everything down and hope for the best tomorrow.

Also make sure the Mac OS predictive text feature is disabled. That’s a system setting, which you’ll find in the Apple → System Settings → Keyboard → Text Input tab.

Just in case OP is looking for something Scrivener-specific, the settings mentioned here impacts all apps on your Mac.
