Oh no! That would be a travesty. 
Section Layouts is where you can apply styles, there is a button on the format bar just like normal. It only uses Format styles though, not project styles (those need to be imported in the Styles tab if you want them).
I made an example of this in fact, a while back, when showing best practices for making a ToC.
