When compiling (to PDF) I have a page break before an image. I am not aware that I have set any option to do that or that there are some setting that I can deactivate … I simply want to have an image in my compiled output between paragraphs without page breaks … how do I do that??

Depends how big the image is and whether it can fit on the same page with the text above it. But the first thing to check is that the line height of the image is set to 1. If for instance your general line height is set to 2, and you insert an image, it will double the pixel height of the image as the height for that line.
But without more knowledge of the details it’s hard to say.
