Upgrade from 1.2.6 to 1.4.2 enlarged all boxes

I installed 1.4.2 and opened an existing Scapple document. My nicely arranged diagram has been increased in size. Each box now had dead space on the left and right of the wording it contains. That increase in box size caused the increase in the diagram size.

How do I get back to the standard box size, etc. specifications that were in version 1.2.6?

Thanks.

Use Ctrl+9 (Zoom to Fit). You don’t need to select anything first. The menu option is View → Zoom to Fit.
Otherwise, drag the Zoom bar at the bottom right of Scapple, especially if your diagram should be beyond the screen borders.
But I recall having to pull my boxes closer and do manual resizes anyway when I upgraded, because they were unreasonable long stings apart.
Placing a border around the diagram and making it Magnetic would only work for dragging around content of the “box” as there is not a grouping/ungrouping option, as with PowerPoint or something like that. But again, this wouldn’t shorten the lines and box sizes per se, because the text within them scales to unusable/unreadable sizes too.

Are you refer to this change? The border around the text is not enlarged, but the amount of space within it is very slightly wider, which could change word wrapping and make some notes taller, but not wider.

Do read the whole thread carefully though, for tips on how to work with it. You will note for instance that this should not happen out of the blue, but mainly if you copy and paste or drag and drop from older boards. There is also a tip for changing the padding within notes.

If the question was directed at my post, the answer is no. I replied to the OP in the context of what I experienced when Scapple for Windows was upgraded to version 1.4.x (at the time of introducing Connection Labels to the Windows version).
I tend to make a Scapple diagram that fits the dimensions of my screen. As soon as I opened my diagrams created prior to v1.4 in the new version, the connecting lines had stretched beyond my screen borders for no apparent reason. I followed the Zoom to Fit method to get everything back to one screen and then Selected all boxes and resized (upsized) the fonts. Next, I selected the boxed individually and Autofitted them where I could. That doesn’t always work, because boxes with lots of text create a long string of text that extends to the right (end of the container) to fit.
All in all, it was a slight inconvenience as I have around 10 diagrams to readjust at the time.

Ah, my mistake, that points to a closed beta area, but I’ll move it out to the public area since the matter is still relevant.

It was directed at the OP though, as I think they are talking about the interior padding, which did change over those version numbers. It’s supposed to be backwards compatible though.

Amber,
It is not backward compatible when moving 1.2.6 to 1.4.2. As I open a 1.2.6 diagram in 1.4.2 the size of the whole diagram increased. Each box has had it’s content changed. The top to bottom spacing has not changed. The left to right spacing now had padding on both sides inside the box. Since the contents were padded, each box became wider. Then the whole diagram was respaced across the diagram space. Net result is my diagram is larger than it was. If I use Auto-Fit then I have lots of spare space within the diagram. That destroys the usability the diagram. And I have many more than 10 diagrams to fix, including one which has over 200 boxes that are aligned both vertically and horizontally.

Where in a 1.2.6 version Scapple file do I find the settings so I can establish those as default settings before every opening one of my diagrams?

Finally what happened to ctrl-e causing the text in a box to be centered?

To clarify, backwards compatibility refers to newer versions of the software (1.4.2) being capable of processing older data, with minimal disruption to the presentation and functionality of that data. Sometimes that means upgrading the format, but it can even mean opening it directly and saving it in such a way that it remains legacy. So yes, this applies in this case.

Version 1.4+ has more padding between the text and the border line, which would have disrupted the layout of older boards, so it was specifically designed to load legacy boards with the old padding value defined, so that they could go on being shown the way they were in the past. Whether that is not working for you is something I’m not clear on, but it sounds close enough to it not working for some reason, for me to suggest reading the thread I linked to.

So, did you follow the instructions in that thread yet? You should have definitive information as to whether or not this is applicable, and how to fix it.
