So basically I’ve been using Scrivener for a long time on a pretty old MacBook. I had Scrivener 2 on that one. I recently bought a new MacBook Air running MacOS Sequoia (15.3.) and my copied all my files to the new machine. I bought Scrivener 3, because Scrivener 2 won’t work on the new machine for obvious reasons.
Now I tried to open an old project file, but Scrivener claims not to be able to, because it can’t open locked files. It won’t open any of my old projects (some of which may have been created using Scrivener 1, don’t remember exactly which ones were how old, but the one I’ve looked at the most closely is definitely a Scrivener 2 file).
Now the project file is not locked, my user has read and write privileges. I looked at the support topic and looked at every single file in the project file, and all of them have the proper privileges, none of them are locked. The files are on my local hard drive, there are no cloud storage related issues here (I’ve seen some forum subjects about this)
I See that the content of my project is in rtf files within the folder represented by the .scriv file, so I know I’m not losing content, but trying to copy all of this stuff manually into a proper file again would be incredibly inconvenient.
Has anyone encountered this issue and has good ideas? I’ve been digging a bit in the forum but I didn’t see anything that applied. Thanks in advance!
Scrivener 2 isn’t compatible with the new computer, I think partially because it’s a newer OS, but mostly because the old Laptop was Intel based and this has Apple silicone, so a bunch of older apps don’t work on the new type of processor anymore
I don’t have any security software running that I’m aware of. The migration assistant didn’t work well with wifi so I transferred the files manually from a Time Machine backup, just copied via USB from the external hard drive.
The specific error message is: " Das Dokument „DnD dwarf oneshot.scriv“ konnte nicht geöffnet werden. Scrivener unterstützt keine schreibgeschützten Projekte. Prüfen Sie die Rechte für dieses Projekt im Finder und stellen Sie sicher, dass es nicht auf einem schreibgeschützten Laufwerk wie ein Disk-Image gespeichert ist." which is the German version of the error message in the troubleshooting document you linked. Trouble is, I did all of the steps in that document and couldn’t find any file in the project that was locked and all of the permissions were set to “read and write” for the user account I’m using.
Okay, so I ended up transferring my files again directly from the old laptop via wifi and now they work. I don’t know why that made a difference, but I’m happy to be able to open my files again.
