URGENT: console box popup with warnings about fonts

When I open Scriv, a console box pops up and scrolls. I tried restarting, and unchecking warnings in options and restarting, but it still does it. I can’t get rid of the console box without Scrivener closing.

This was the first thing to stand out to me. Mailchimp is a email list deamon that is often used for newsletters and other sorts of blast-style bulk emails. If you use it, the fact that it’s throwing warnings might not be related, but it might the cause of a conflict. If you don’t use it, it’s one breadcrumb to point to a corrupted install. Or worse, OS issues unrelated to Scrivener.

I see a lot of fonts listed here, and I’m guessing you are a font collector (nothing wrong with that). I’m not personally familar with font tools and such, but you may have a corrupted font or a font that depends on depreciated OS calls, which can break things.

This is looking like something had damaged your Scrivener install. Have you tried uninstalling it and downloading a fresh installer?

This makes me think its a problem with a user installed/created theme, again a vector for file corruption to throw a spanner in the works.

My advice is to close Scrivener out, make a backup copy of the piece your trying work on, (and copy the folder containing the auto-backups for good measure) before uninstalling Scrivener, rebooting, then downloading and reinstalling Scrivener to see if these problems get better.

If that doesn’t work for you, you should reach out to the support folks via the corresponding email account for your OS.

Looks like you inadvertently enabled diagnostic warnings feature. Not at my desk, so can’t tell you at the moment how to disable. Perhaps search the forum for this.

Yes, i do use mailchimp, but not sure why that’s showing up in regard to Scriv. I use Scriv for both writing books, and also as databases to keep track of my material…i have Scriv projects for my publishing press, daybook, tidbit files, etc. Can’t tell which project it might be reacting to.
Importantly, I spent four hours yesterday uninstalling and cleaning out registry from using IObit (Advanced System Care, and also other programs from them like the antiMALWARE–it was causing issues so I got rid of it, and won’t ever use those types of programs again.) I guess it might have something to do with all that, although, this was happening when I still had those programs installed.
Yes, I also collect fonts, and now use Adobe fonts almost exclusively, but haven’t had time to get rid of all the others…on my TO DO list.
I will backup Scriv and then do as you suggest and install a fresh copy and see if that addresses the issue. Thanks for your help. I’ll post back when I see what happens.
