"Using Script Formatting for Other Purposes"

From the Scrivener User Manual…

19.8 Using Script Formatting for Other

Purposes

While the Scriptwriting mode has been preconfigured and designed for

scriptwriting, it deserves to be mentioned that it is at its heart nothing more

than an automated styling engine. This means it can be used for a variety of

purposes having nothing to do with scriptwriting.

But every time I attempt to do so, Scrivener responds with bugs and strange results that are far from what it is I am attempting to accomplish. Will someone at L&L please set the record straight here by talking directly to what works and what doesn’t work, where the bugs are and what a user can do about it? This would be an incredibly powerful feature if it worked as described in the L&L vids and manuals.

You do realize that the purpose of the forum is for users to help/support other users, right?
A community of users helping each other out when they feel like it and can.

Given how you’ve antagonized everyone (or pretty close) of whom visits frequently enough to have come in contact with you in the past, perhaps it’d be better for you to contact support directly?

Nope. I prefer that support is is made available to all all Scrivener users. Which is why I’m asking here. Also, other users might have found a workaround or that I’ve done something wrong. It is helpful to other users of Scrivener to know what works and what doesn’t work, to hear from other users what they are having trouble using or getting to work. I’ve been in the industry my whole working life and always work to insure that those who purchase software that the organizations I work for are informed about anything that doesn’t work or isn’t working or that other users are having trouble with. It would seem that literature and latte very much do not want to address the problems with Scrivener’s script writing tools. Why? Seems like something the company would want to get ahead of. I’m just the messenger. In fact, that is all any of us Scrivener customers are in this forum. Should we be afraid to ask questions? I don’t want to be afraid to ask why features in Scrivener don’t work or if I as a customer am somehow not using the feature correctly. From my experience running focus groups, it’s rare indeed for a problem to be the consumer, the user.

But let’s get back to the issue at hand, that being the script editing settings and the problem many people have expressed making it work as described in the user’s manual and in the instructional vids. As far as platform is concerned, it would seem that users are having trouble with this feature on several of the platforms that Scrivener supports. What I haven’t yet seen in this forum are responses that inform or resolve the problems posted. Not by other users, not by L&L itself.

Seems it would take less effort on your (L&L) behalf to answer our questions, to address the issues we’ve listed than to admonish or gaslight us for simply doing what the forum is set up to have us do… no?

From my experience LL’s staff have always been fully honest and transparent as regard to the app and whatever its current state was or is.
Nothing to complain about.

I couldn’t agree more.

But in any case, @Randall_Lee_Reetz , I hope you get things sorted or at least that you learn the limitations as they relate to your writing project. Perhaps you could ping support directly, get things cleared up, and report back to your colleagues here. Just a thought.

You are asking very specific questions related to a particular group of script settings. Such questions are often best answered by inspecting the user’s project directly, and therefore are best answered via one-on-one support.

Opening a support ticket also facilitates our own internal issue tracking, including raising issues with the developer if needed, and makes it easier to focus the entire team’s attention on a problem.

You specifically requested a response from the L&L support team. Using the support ticket system designed for that purpose is the best way to accomplish that.
