Vote closed: the L&L Book Club choice for October

We’re reading A Princess of Mars this month, with Dracula planned for September. After finishing those other-worldly titles, how about something more down to earth, like a family saga? Let us know which first-book-in-a-series you would like to discuss in our Book Club in October, by casting your vote in our poll:

0 voters

The result will be announced early in September, to allow plenty of time for you to acquire and read the selected title before our discussion in October.

You are very welcome to make suggestions for other books for us to read together — either reply to this message, or send me a PM. We’ll keep a list, and over the months ahead we’ll consider adding such suggestions to future book-choice polls.

When making a book suggestion, please remember that we will be reading books that are in the public domain in the UK and EU, where copyright laws protect work until 70 years after the author’s death.

All the best,
Astrid

Just a few more days to vote on our Book Club choice for October! (How quickly the year is flying by…)

There have been only a small number of votes so far, but currently in the lead is Zola’s The Fortune of the Rougons or La Fortune des Rougon. Does that grab your fancy, or would you prefer something by Anthony Trollope, Louisa May Alcott, or John Galsworthy? Let us know in our poll.

All the best,
Astrid

The poll for October’s Book Club selection has closed, and we’ll be reading The Fortune of the Rougons (La Fortune des Rougon) by Émile Zola. Feel free to read it in English, in the original French, or in any translation that you like!
