We’re reading A Princess of Mars this month, with Dracula planned for September. After finishing those other-worldly titles, how about something more down to earth, like a family saga? Let us know which first-book-in-a-series you would like to discuss in our Book Club in October, by casting your vote in our poll:
- Can You Forgive Her?, by Anthony Trollope (1864-65): the first of the Palliser novels
- Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott (1868-69): the first of a series of books about the March family
- The Fortune of the Rougons or La Fortune des Rougon, by Émile Zola (1871): the first in the Rougon-Macquart series
- The Man of Property, by John Galsworthy (1906): the first novel in the Forsyte Saga

The result will be announced early in September, to allow plenty of time for you to acquire and read the selected title before our discussion in October.
You are very welcome to make suggestions for other books for us to read together — either reply to this message, or send me a PM. We’ll keep a list, and over the months ahead we’ll consider adding such suggestions to future book-choice polls.
When making a book suggestion, please remember that we will be reading books that are in the public domain in the UK and EU, where copyright laws protect work until 70 years after the author’s death.
All the best,
Astrid
