Wacom Tablet Mouse not accepted[NOTED]

Hi there,

I’m using Windows XP with a Wacom tablet. But mouse clicks are not accepted.
Well, some of them were during the installation process (not all of them).
e.g. When I wanted to accept terms I couldn’t hit the “I accept” bullet point I had to find it via tabkey and then select it by pressing space. “Next” button could be hit without problems.

Running scrivener for the first time: When I wanted to choose a template that again wasn’t possible by mouseclick, had to use the tabkey again.

After starting my first project, I can’t click on anything.

Wacom Tablet is working fine with every other program I possess.

This is quite annoying actualy, since the only other mouse I own is broken

I know you get tons and tons of bug reports and requests but this one is really …
Is there any chance that this might be adressed in the next beta version so that I can finally test scrivener during the NaNo? hope dies last

I am using a wacom (intuos 1), too, with a similar effect.
Mouse clicks (using normal intuos pen) does work only limited:

  • It is not possible to set or change text cursor position.

  • With double click in editor on can select single words or column of words but they are only highlighted in very bright grey and are not “selected” for editing but the cursor jumps to the “edit document” window (in wich the wacom works correct btw!)

  • It is not possible to select text in editor window (so it turns blue, ready for editing).

  • right click menus do work correct (even left click in the menus does work)

  • single left mouse click does not work in binder, to get the same effect as single mouse click one must perform double click.
Same with all menus (exept right click menus). One can only open menu with double click, inside the menus one can use single mous click.

(Not a real problem for me. I am using my keyboard trackpad mouse when writing what works perfect until now).

I will investigate all of these and see what I can do. I’ll need to get myself a tablet first.

I have a Wacom Intuos4 (running Windows 7 64bit) and often use the tablet pen instead of a mouse. This causes Scrivener to crash immediately upon any kind of Wacom input, every single time. Even just moving the pen near the tablet without clicking causes a full crash. I’m an artist and writer, and I need both an art program and a script open at the same time for comics work, but this incompatibility means I can’t leave Scrivener open when I’m not using it exclusively. Fortunately it’s never caused work to be lost because Scrivener is so good at saving, but it’s a real pain and will only become more and more annoying as I incorporate Scrivener into my workflow.

I have exactly the same problem. The left button on my Intuos3 mouse does not function in Scrivener. The only other time I have ever experienced this is with the CEWE Photobook software.
Has anyone who has had this Wacom Mouse problem managed to fix it, if so how? I see this message trail is a year old now.

Incidentally I am using the free trial of Scrivener and last night tried to order a copy via the Scrivener web page. Got right through to the final Payment bit, then clicked “submit” and absolutely nothing happened. No confirmation. I tried a second time and still no response either way. Left with uncertailnty whether I have paid once, twice or not atall. I woke this morning sufddenly wondering if the same Intuos mouse problem is occuring on the Scrivener web page too??!!! maybe it did not recognise my Intuos mouse click to “submit”?

Hmm. I’ve thought to remember that the Wacom tablet was working, but since you’re having trouble, I pulled out mine and made some experiments.

Your separate Scrivener purchase matter, support will have to separately respond to - just noting up front so they don’t lose that here.

Now, here’s what I see with the latest Scrivener 1.03 release and my tablet - a small Intuos 4:

  • seems to work fine with the pen; no problems noted

  • the mouse, however, doesn’t work reliably or correctly. A clue is probably in what happens when the background Windows desktop is in use, and you click the Scrivener window. The Scrivener window suddenly shifts position. Often this is accompanied by the feeling that the mouse is communicating with scrivener, but not in the pane you think you clicked in. Under some conditions it will work, but also the scaling/mouse speed/acceleration are not correct – the mouse is very slow whatever you set, while it accelerates fine in other windows or on the desktop.

Recommendations:

  • though I don’t know anything updated in it for tablets, it’s probably a good idea to be running that latest Scrivener 1.03, and perhaps you already are.

  • since I seem to get good results with the pen, you might need to be running the latest Wacom driver for it, as that is installed here. That’s 6.1.7-3 for Intuos3 as well as Intuos4, also XP as well as win7, and you can get it here:

wacom.com/en/CustomerCare/Driver … Windows+XP

Be certain to uninstall the old Wacom driver and reboot, then have your tablet plugged in, before installing the new driver. Wacom is picky that way.

Given the pen works fine, it’s likely Scrivener’s issue with the Intuos mouse isn’t a large one – perhaps needing to initialize all input devices available, not just the first found, or something like that.

Good fortune on using the tablet, and to the Scrivener HQ team when they can get to figuring this out. I understand you may want to use the Intuos for wrist reasons, etc., as people do, besides the drawing abilities.

Regards,
Clive

Thanks Clive
I bought a Trust wireless optical mouse (cheap for the value) and happily leave my Wacom tablet for Photoshop.
I am enjoying Scrivener so much, I cant wait to get back on it each day. Playing with over 100 files already. I keep boring my friends and relatives by telling them about Scrivener!
I just went through the tutorial a second time, lots to learn.
Have enjoyed lots of stuff on the forum too.
Cheers
