I tried renaming my old project for a fresh start, but the new “project” is blank. I tried starting a new project and importing the old one into the research folder and moved the scenes into the document, but every character I type pulls up the note:

To avoid losing your latest changes, make sure you have enough space and write access on your storage device.
You can create a copy of your project into another location using the menu File > Save As.
You might also try to compile and save to RTF or DOC format to avoid losing your latest changes.
I finally decided to just pick up the old document, but I’m getting the same message. Maybe I haven’t used it since getting a new computer, though that shouldn’t matter since I think I was saving to the same external drive anyway.
Can somebody help me so I can start writing in Scrivener again. I love Scrivener even though I was too busy to write for quite a while. Thanks for any help you can give.
Are you saving to an external drive that’s not connected? Your SSD is generally C: drive–not E: drive, unless partitioned into smaller chunks.
Aside from that you seem to be saving RTF file into the Scriv folder using some manual method. Don’t. You’re corrupting your project. The Scriv folder is reserved for your project, and your Scrivx project control file won’t be able to keep track of manual saves of RTF files in the Scriv folder.

Thank you for your reply. My Scrivener was originally set up to save to the E drive and hasn’t been a problem. I asked my son to look at my post and your reply. He couldn’t find any reason for my problerm but started checking around–even though he doesn’t know Scrivener. He discovered that for some reason my Scrivener folder was set to “read only”! I have no idea how that happened, but the problem is corrected now. Thank you for your kindness in responding.

If you want to bifurcate a project and take Project A and start again from this point and name it Project B, the easiest way is to go File > Save As this will open windows explorer where your projects are stored and give the project its new name. Now you will have a copy of Project A with its new name and this will be separate from Project A. Any change in the new project will have NO effect on the old project. They are now two different projects.

Thank you. I’ve done that now. It didn’t work before because somehow my Scrivener folder had been changed to “read only.” I have exactly what I wanted now.
