Weird lines in grey background outside page-view editor

[I’ve attached three pictures to demonstrate better.]

When using page-view in an editor, I often see one or two black lines, either vertical or horizontal, in the gray background area outside the page. Resizing the window in all manner of ways doesn’t change this, nor does toggling the binder (left) or information panel (right).

However, toggling text wrap (leaving and then re-entering page-view) seems to clear them, until they come back later. I can’t figure out what specifically causes the lines to appear.

(Using latest maxed out MBA, latest OS X, and latest Scriv)

Checking console, the only activity I see are the following four events immediately on application launch:

6/21/14 9:45:40.922 AM Scrivener[2416]: 10.4-style NSDateFormatter method called on a 10.0-style formatter, which doesn’t work. Break on _NSDateFormatter_Log_New_Methods_On_Old_Formatters to debug. This message will only be logged once.

6/21/14 9:45:41.316 AM Scrivener[2416]: Error loading /Users/joachim/Library/ColorPickers/AntetypeColorPicker.colorPicker/Contents/MacOS/AntetypeColorPicker: dlopen(/Users/joachim/Library/ColorPickers/AntetypeColorPicker.colorPicker/Contents/MacOS/AntetypeColorPicker, 265): no suitable image found. Did find:

I think I remember seeing something like this a while ago, though we never did pin down what was causing it. You could try playing with some of the visual options in the Page View section of the Editor preferences pane and see if it makes a difference. If you find a combination of settings that is required, let us know—it looks pretty standard from the screenshots though.

One thing I would try before poking around too much though is to reset your project view settings. Just use the Window/Layouts/Manage Layouts… palette to save your display settings, then reset them by holding down the Option key and clicking on the File menu. An alternate for “Close” will appear: “Close Project and Clear Interface Settings”.

The console messages were unfortunately all rather routine save for the custom Antetype colour picker making a fuss. That shouldn’t be of any impact except when the picker is being used.

Actually, I believe this is to do with the new default page background texture that Apple provided in Mavericks. For some reason it does not play well with being scaled. In the Preferences, please change the background colour to use a flat colour grey colour rather than use the default page background colour (the default uses Apple’s background texture). It’s curious because Apple’s default texture for Mountain Lion never had any of these issues. I have seen it myself, though, and it’s on my list to see if there’s anything we can do or whether we just need to drop support for that texture.

Thanks and all the best,
Keith
