Welcome to the all-new all-singing updated forums

Hey Keith,

I was not trying to push above anything else (much less v. 1.2). That’s why I said “near future”. I actually thought the DT forum info could be of help. Basically I thought it could be an update of the available RSS options or that DT’s mod could be used here.

Anyway… I’ll keep an eye on the RSS mod you mentioned and check from time to time for an update.

Best, (specially on the release of 1.2)

Yeah, sorry, I think I was a bit grumpy in my reply. That’s what comes of answering halfway through implementing a tricky bit of code.

It’s okay. I just didn’t want to be badly interpreted.

Besides, I can handle a little grumpiness from the developer of one of my favorite applications.

(Tricky code is nasty!)

I’m very glad the forums are back, although I’m a noob and a lurker, who’s been reading the forums on RSS. However, I love you people so much, that I will not only read the forums here - I might even start writing here and in Scrivener, as soon as I’m done with my business school exams…

Welcome onboard the Good Ship Scrivener, Susana.

Good luck with the exams

Just be careful who you associate with onboard, because there are some very strange members of Scrivs crew. A lot of them shouldnt be let out on their own. They need a lot of looking after. But!! most of `em are writers anyway, so I suppose that should be taken for granted…eh
Take care

3 … 2 … 1

Just an update on the RSS thing: I looked at installing the syndication suite I was talking about, but I just didn’t have the time as yet. Mods on 2.0 were very easy to install using EasyMod, but there’s no such thing on 3.0 yet, which means I have to go through various PHP files and modify them myself, which takes a while. Given that my time is limited, I doubt I’ll get chance to do this until after 1.2.
All the best,
Keith

Thanks, Keith, for even thinking about the RSS. It should be evident that nothing, but nothing, can stop the most frequent contributors from nattering away on matters bold and sundry. So we’ve figured out how to read the latest topics.

I’ve tried to update my avatar, but I get the following error message:

“The URL you specified is invalid.”

Am I missing something?

Gerry

UBB may not be set up to handle TIFF files, perhaps?

Thanks for the suggestion. I just converted the image to JPEG and tried submitting it, but received this error message:

“It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image.”

Strange.

Gerry

OK, I think I figured it out. I was using an image that was 128 x 128 pixels, and was not specifying a pixel size, leaving it at zero’s as per the instructions “leave blank to attempt automatic verification”. I entered the size of 80 x 80 pixels and it worked!

I tried using the 80 x 80 size with the TIFF version, and that still did not work, so I think your suggestion that UBB doesn’t like that file flavor could be accurate.

Thanks,
Gerry

Yeah, TIFFs are most commonly used for hi/print resolution images, and by default are lossless. Some browsers have developed to support them, but as a general rule stick to JPGs, GIFs or PNG when putting stuff on the Net. They’re all specifically designed for screen viewing.

Temporary RSS feed link:

It’s pretty cheap and simple, but it should tide folk over until something better either gets an official release or becomes easier to install. Big thanks to my brother for finding this!

Best,
Keith

…And now it’s up on the main page. Hello? Where are those RSS naggers? You have RSS now!

While not a nagger, I happened to try your forums today to see if the RSS thing was worked out yet, and Lo! it was. So thanks!

Thank you for hooking up RSS again Keith, much much appreciated!

Yes, meant to post my thanks for restoring the RSS, which I discovered the other day before the notice was posted when my old RSS feed suddenly started working again. But when I tried to post, I got a SQL error message, and have had a few more of those pop up in both safari and netnewswire. hope it works this time! and thanks again.

RSS Nagger? Moi? Thanks to your brother. And also you.

These forums are much better and more focused than the old ‘boxy’ ones. Many thanks and congratulations to the Scrivener team.
