We NEEEEEEEED tools for character organization/administration.
I’ve been using Scrivener since I was fifteen and, since then, my only wish was that, someday, there would be added some character oriented features into Scrivener.
Well, maybe it’s the 3:00a.m. confidence talking through me, but I’m still here and Scrivener keeps being mostly the same since I know it. Sometimes, I still cry.
This is my proposal…
A new option called “Characters” or “personas” in the Project tab would look astonishing, pretty sexy in my opinion. Selecting it could open a draggable and resizable window with the option name as its title and two main views: “In project” and “All (characters[1])”. The “In project” view could display character notelets, everyone displaying the character name with its reference foto; selecting any of them could open, in the same window, the character’s sheet, where the user could add or remove, just like metadata and tags, sections and features where it could add free text (like: clicking “Add section” and writing “Physical features.” and then pressing enter, resulting in a new section called “Physical features.” displayed as a title and then clicking “Add feature” and writing “Eye colour” and pressing enter again and obtaining a little tag named “Eye colour:” with a textbox alongside where the user could describe the bloody goddamn hell eye colour). This sections and “tags” could synchronize with the rest of the cards/notelets, so the user doesn’t redact them again and again. In both main views could be an option that could be named “Sociogram” that, when the user selects it, there could be displayed in the same window a panel with the characters photos alongside so the user could select any of them to open a pop-up menu that could let the same user redact a vinculative label and a color and select any other character to vinculate it with the first one with the redacted label; doing this could refresh the panel and make it show the photos of both characters vinculated by a line or arrow with the desired color(s) and label(s). In the second main view, “All“, there could be the same stuff that was in the first one, but displaying all characters redacted in any other documents and the relationships between them between these same documents.
I love Scrivener, it has been my best friend for everything since middle school, so I’m trying to contribute, at least, with an idea that I surely know would improve it and be pretty beneficial.
