What format should I compile to for print?

Here’s the dilemma:

If I compile to PDF the footnotes go to the end of the document rather than the page cited - not what i want.

But if I compile to .docx and I open it in Pages to check it the font changes to Baskerville as Garamond is not an option in Pages. And the Header compiles to Helvetica, not Garamond as I specified under Page Settings.

I don’t want to send a proof to the printer that isn’t exactly how I want it. How can I be sure that everything is compiling correctly? Is there another format I should use? I can’t imagine I have to buy microsoft word to be able to do this.

Do you have Garamond installed on your Mac? If so, it should appear in Pages.
