Hi - I’m looking for a feature that I can’t seem to find. When I search for words I can’t see how many times the words appear in the document. (Google Docs, for instance, will tell you at a glance that a given word appears 20 times, 30, etc.) Does anyone know where to find this feature or how to turn it on? Thank you!
Does this help? (found by internet search)
Ugh. It shows a raw count, but doesn’t seem to A) highlight all the instances of the word or B) let me jump through the text to find those words. Thank you for pointing that out!
I’m really disappointed. Scrivener has some nice organizational features, but as someone who’s written multiple books and an editor myself, not having this feature is a dealbreaker for the editing process.
Must you use Scrivener?
Use the tools you have that work as you want?
Compile the draft to the format your other tool(s) can read and then do your editorial work. Give results back to author for the author to review/accept/reject you suggestions/commands.
No, I certainly don’t have to at all. I just bought this thinking it would become my go-to for drafting and editing, but after working it very extensively for a few weeks I think I’ll go back to Word. Google Docs was unbeatable for a long time, but it unfortunately gets less usable every time it updates (and it’s harder to keep it from updating) and it’s just a bit frustrating. I do like a lot of Scrivener’s features, though, and for some types of writing it’s probably great.
I’ve no idea about the count requirement, but that seems to be settled.
To highlight every instance of a word (or any search pattern) in a document is easy enough by using Project Search ⌘+⇧+F, but limit it to the Binder selection.
To jump through the found items use ⌘+G.
How’s about Project > Statistics and then clicking on “Word Frequency”?
