Why do they recommend using Folders to represent chapters instead of just making each chapter one file? What are the advantages of this?
A lot of people write in scenes within chapters. The chapter is a cohesive unit that has a particular theme and the protagonist’s goals are largely constant throughout (a detective chasing down a particular suspect, for instance), but there are spans of time not covered in the text, changes in location, etc…
If you don’t break your chapters down into multiple scenes (or are opposed to having one file per scene instead of per chapter), then there is no reason to use folders at all.
Thanks. I am using Scrivener to do a final review/edit on a manuscript I have already “finished” so the chapters are already written. I think I’ll take the folder route just to get a more granular look at the scenes.
I have used three asterisks (***) between scenes in each chapter. Is there a way to have Scrivener split the scenes using this format? I am using the Windows version?
