Seems like I’ve been waiting forever. Can’t find any updates in my searches here.
Yes, we do have a few things to fix, bugs that have been pointed out, and also a few small adjustments and enhancements on the list as well. It will probably be a while though, as nothing is critical in any of that, and other projects have the priority right now. It is by and large quite stable and there are very few bugs. When we do get back to it, we’d like it to be a bigger project rather than quickly dashing off a few things. For example we’ve long wanted to add keyboard shortcut customisation, but that is a pretty big project.
You will see more Mac updates, but this shouldn’t be confused with progress in the sense of there being features added or anything like that. It is in the process of undergoing a complete rewrite (to satisfy how Apple is encouraging developers to use its new programming language). That is mostly finished, but such a major overhaul always means a period of bug fixing.
Yeah, ok - I guess I’m mostly looking for new shining gadgets…
Ah! Well, we might some day rethink some things about it, but it’s important to know that we made this to be simple and pretty much feature-complete. It’s a useful utility for what it does, but was never meant to be an ongoing thing that evolves and such. More a Notepad.exe. You always know what you’re going to get when you fire it up, whether it be 1998 or 2025.
Well, if you do reconsider, I’d really enjoy the ability to make curved connections between boxes
This is probably the most comprehensive discussion on that particular idea. It does also, toward the very top, link to some previous discussions, as well as the developer’s response.
Hmm-uhm. 30 May update to Notepad.exe, for what it’s worth:
With this update, we are introducing lightweight formatting in Notepad, providing additional flexibility in how you structure content across your files. The experience supports Markdown style input and files for users who prefer to work directly with the lightweight markup language. To get started, use the new formatting toolbar to apply formatting as you type or to selected text, including bold and italic styling, hyperlinks, and support for simple lists and headings.
Okay, 1998 to 2024. (And yes, I know little things have changed over the years, as they have with Scapple.)
I guess I have one reason to upgrade to Windows 11, then. Nice to finally start that list.
