Wish: Keyboard Stroke Sounds

First of all, I have to say that I absolutely love Scrivener. With that being said, my wish for Scrivener is that it offered keyboard stroke sounds when in full-screen mode.

I like that Scrivener offers so much functionality but also offers a more comfortable writing atmosphere when using the full-screen mode; such as even choosing your background and the background fade. Perhaps it’s just me but I would like nice keyboard sound effect options, similar to Ommwriter, so that I can hear a more musical version of my work as it’s being typed.

That really is a feature that whether one is using OS X or WIndows or eventually iOS should come from the operating system not Scrivener. One of the first things I did with my iPad and repeated with all my iPhones is to turn off keyclicks. I find them obtrusive. I put up with the mechanical noise of my desktop keyboard and of my MagicMouse because it isn’t possible to turn those off but any and all sound effects, alerts, warnings, notifications should not be controlled by an application.

Well I obviously don’t mean permanent key board sound effects for the entire computer! :unamused:

I also hate hearing the mechanical keyboard strokes on my desktop when I type so a possible solution would be to subdue them with sound effects. That’s why I’d like to see a feature for keyboard stroke sounds so that I, and whoever else it pleases, can listen to a more musical version of their work as it’s being typed. And of course there would be the option to turn it on or off.

reepicheep–“any and all sound effects, alerts, warnings, notifications should not be controlled by an application.” It’s not about controlling anything. It’s a feature that when you’re in full-screen mode, you have the option to turn on keyboard strokes and hear a more musical typing rather than the mechanical typing of your desktop.

Maybe one of these will work?

From the developer, in that last thread:

Obviously the folks over at Ommwriter disagree, but that thing does a lot of stuff that I just scratch my head over, to be perfectly honest.

Thanks for the links you guys. What I like about Scrivener is that is offers high functionality but can also be adjusted to be a more comfortable writing atmosphere in the full-screen mode. I agree the background music should really be up to the user. For example, I usually pick out some soothing music I like from YouTube and then type away in the full-screen mode in Scrivener. I choose the colors, background, fading, etc. for myself. The only thing I can’t ever control is the mechanical typing sounds from my desktop, which is why I was hoping for a keyboard stroke feature to subdue them.

As a sometime surfer, I’d find this off-the-Richter. When I type something awesome, the computer should be prompted to say “Totally stoked, dude.” In actual fact, it could be a deal-breaker for me. Pull the trigger, Scriv!

That’s just like, your opinion, man.

Greetings,

Another year, yet another user request to have keystroke sounds installed in Scrivener. With Scrivener on the verge of a major update for Mac and Win, and with the iOS version up and continually evolving, I thought I’d give this request one more shot.

I’ll admit it: I’m addicted to keyboard typing sounds. Typing sounds relax and motivate me at the same time. It’s the only reason why I’ve used Hanx Writer on iOS, which itself is a hugely popular app. Optional keystroke sounds would be “the sand in the hula hoop” that would make the writing experience that much more enjoyable for me and others.

I’m a PC person as well, and to get my keyboard sound “fix,” I’ve installed third party software like ClicKey and Home Typist. Sadly these apps haven’t been updated in years and they don’t seem to work at all on Windows 8 or 10. So it would be nice … indeed, wonderful … if Scrivener had its own keystroke sounds, built in.

It’s a fair point. Typing sounds don’t do much for organizing documents. It certainly won’t help with syncing. Maybe this is a frivolous request. But contemplating how many more keyboard miles I would rack up with this feature added alone, given past experience, I don’t think it so silly. Nor for many other users, I am sure!

Thanks, Keith, for considering this. And while I’m at it, thank you, Team L&L, for all the time and effort into making Scrivener (in all platforms) the best writing app there is.

Regards,

Joel
