Word count and page count in footer

I would like to request that the word count and page count be displayed in the editor page in the footer. In addition to that, would like to see the entire manuscript word / page count also displayed. Displayed full time (configure in settings) and not have to mouse over for a popup

Remember that page-count in Scrivener is calculated on a number of words per page that you can enter in the settings. It can only be an estimate until you compile.

That being said, I think it would be nice to expand the drop-down list with options for either words or characters to a list of checkboxes containing more statistics than just the one.

That’s what a Statusbar is for, isn’t it?

Showing more than one type of statistic at once is indeed already on the list for improvement for the Windows version.

Can we not have it added to the statistics at least? I see its not there (was it ever?).

In page setup we clearly define a document size. So when we go into statistics it can count it and doesn’t need to constantly be doing so prior to that little popup appearing.

What version of Scrivener do you have, and on what platform? This thread is very old and almost certainly refers to a different version.

I’ve moved this over to a much more recent and relevant feature request thread. As noted, it’s already on our list. That said, if you want live page counts in the footer bar, you should be using View ▸ Text Editing ▸ Page View, otherwise it has nothing to count. The implication there should be underscored: it is counting how many simulated paper shaped rectangles are in the text editor at the moment, not pages, in the sense of what page in the overall WIP you are looking at, or what your publishing house will produce from the manuscript, or even what you might print in 12pt TNR on A4. This is a rough estimate at best, or wildly wrong at worst.[1]

Project ▸ Statistics... however should already be showing page counts in two different ways. Refer to §20.1.3, Statistics, in the user manual PDF, for further information. These are much more accurate, especially with the “Accurate (Slower)” mode enabled at the bottom of the panel. When the panel is loaded in that mode, it will run a background compile to get the actual page count.
