Word Count No Longer Updating Automatically after 50k words

The word count tracking has stopped once I hit 50,000 words in my manuscript. I have tried all the troubleshooting ideas I was able to find online and nothing has worked. For example, I have tried to toggle the compile buttons, I have restarted, nothing works. And I know it is wrong as I could type a thousand words and the word counter session would say 0 words. I saw an older post from 2024 that stated this started happening to them as well once they updated to newest version. Anyone else had this issue? Is this a bug issue?

Did you start with the “November Template” described on this page (or the old NaNoWriMo one)? It comes with a 50,000 word target pre-configured. But I’m not sure what happens when you reach that.

No, I used the normal Fiction template. The exact word count was 52,901 when it stopped counting.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the clarification.

Is the current document in the Draft folder, or somewhere else in the project?

If you go back and add words to an existing document that was counted, are those new words added to the total?

Yes, if I go back to an earlier chapter it counts the words.

Is the problem document in the Draft folder?

In the metadata pane of the Inspector, is the Include in Compile box checked?
