Word Count: Project Stats vs Project Targets

I am getting different word count from Project Targets that I get from Project Stats. I’m using the NaNoWriMo template. The Project Targets Count is slightly lower. Today, for instance, I had 19,692 in the Project Targets and 19,738 in Project Statistics. Is it because the Project Statistics runs compile before giving a word count? I have noticed that the compile feature adds in things like chapter headings, and a header/footer.

Yep, that’s it exactly. Project Targets is a live count, so it just counts the document text that gets loaded in the editor in order to keep things fast while you’re writing. Project Statistics actually runs a compile in the background so that it can give a more accurate count of your actual compiled documen. Thus it will include titles (including prefixes like “Chapter One”), exclude comments, etc.–whatever you’ve set in compile formatting.
