We are two writers planning on writing a book together, One of us is a Mac user and the other still a Windows user. Is it possible to write on the same book-project simultaneously on a Windows and Mac computer respectively and then sync and see the differences if we have worked on the same part of the book?
Is it possible at all to write on a Mac and a Windows computer and save to the cloud (eg Dropbox) and pick the files up with the other computer and continue working?

Collaboration using dropbox

I’m confused if I am doing this right. A friend and I are working on the same scrivener project using two different windows computers. If we are sharing the project using the dropbox sharing feature then I must open the project.scrivx from dropbox. Since Scrivener opens all subsequent projects from where the last one was saved should I put all of my projects in the dropbox folder so I don’t have to navigate back to the normal location were I keep my projects? 1 Master file, two writers collaborating - any ideas?

Hi Guys, I have had a good look around and cannot see any specific references to working with a co-writer. Anyone doing similar and developed a solution for smooth, loss free collaboration? I have thought of; Specific individual editing areas. Assigned days for editing the master file. Without strict admin discipline, the potential for loss of work is certainly there. Mixed Mac/Windows/Linux Environments

I’ve been working in all three environments. While working in projects, I often do a File=Save As… Dozens of these saved .scriv projects were then copied to external USB drives. It should be then possible to pick up these backups and move them from one machine to another. However, I see that some of the backups (save as…) files have .scrivx files in the folder, but many do not. Do projects created on the Mac have a .scrivx file? If so, where is it? What does the absence of a .scrivx file me…

Scrivener on two computers?

Hello all, I recently discovered Scrivener and I believe it to be an amazing product. I am still at the stage of toying around with it, and going through the videos and other stuff I find on you-tube and Facebook, when the Firewall lets me do so, since I live in China (since 2010). My question is, if I purchase a license, will it allow me to work on Scrivener both at home as well as at my office? I would never use the two computers at the same time, but I wonder if I would be getting something …

EDIT Oh, not ‘simultaneously’. You have to manage when each of you works on it. And have a look at Cubby as an alternative to Dropbox; it has several advantages to my mind, but, importantly in this situation, for a Mac user, it sends a message through Growl when files in a shared ‘cubby’ are changed on the other computer, importantly when the user.lock file is moved to trash at the end of the other person’s editing session. For me, it helps to know if my collaborator is working on it so I don’t try at the same time.
